Science has succeeded beyond our wildest expectations, but, at the same time, it has also failed miserably.
Science has succeeded in the quantity department, but not so much in the quality department.
Well, who could argue that science has not improved our quality of life……. in every material aspect?
The potentiality and actuality of global communication is far beyond all precedent.
So, we’re all dressed up and outfitted, but we have nowhere to go…… well, except out into the void.
Many of us, however, still manage to cling to the spirit, in almost every possible way……. new and old.
Science has done its darnedest to quash our spirits…… with marginal success.
Yes, the intelligentsia has turned away from traditional religions, but there have been a plethora of alternatives to a full embrace of scientism.
Science has failed to capture our hearts and minds.
Most of us are ok
Most of us are not out searching for the next big thing…… in fact, there is much trepidation in that department.
However, does anyone really expect us to sit on this third rock 🪨 from the Sun
, contemplating our navels, waiting for the Sun to go out?
The existential human condition is that we only have only one foot 🦶 planted on the Earth
But where is that other foot 🦶?
Our bipedal, existential stance does seem to predispose us to some sort of dualism.
But science, itself, has blocked such an easy way out.
The quasi omniscience of science makes it increasingly difficult to draw any ontological lines in the sand…… such as between the sacred and the profane.
The continued thrust of science is always pushing us toward a single footed monism.
Science leaves no stone unturned…… no corner unexposed.
If we’re gonna come out into the daylight, we’re gonna have to come out fighting.
We’re going to have to declare a total war.
If that isn’t immaterialism, we have no idea of what it could be.
All paths of retreat have been blocked off.
Modernism was a one-way passage.
We are not going to turn the clock
back on modernism……… try though the Taliban does……. to put the toothpaste back in the tube.
I will say this for modernism……. the battle now is between smart phones
…….. don’t bring a gun to a phone fight.
Materialism is not going to be a pushover.
It’s not going to be easy to crack…….. not without a portal……. or two.
And portals don’t grow on trees……. in case you hadn’t noticed.
My kingdom for a portal opener.
The last time I checked, she was in no rush.
Perhaps scientific materialism will collapse under its own weight.
Scientism is already running on fumes.
However, the greatest barrier to immaterialism is not that materialism refuses to give up the ghost……..
The greatest barrier is that folks know a shaky bridge when they see one.
