Other worlds = other times (D. Deutsch) but the FUN-da-MENTAL question should be, "Why do I (we) find myself (ourselves) in this particular small world and not another?" (given the vast set of times and places and perceptions of the same).
An extension of the above would add, "And if the world branches (as in quantum many worlds) why does my consciousness perceive a self in this particular branch and not the other?"
Since the true nature of the experience of consciousness remains a mystery (more so if one accepts anecdotal evidence for perceptions that defy local physical laws) we are free to speculate on alternative models where aspects of consciousness partake in the world branch selection process (see Michael Mensky https://arxiv.org/abs/1407.2627). Note that this adhoc elevation of the role of consciousness might be viewed as a natural selection at the mental level towards a best possible small (in the context of the many worlds) world.
Perhaps the more painful thought is not that we are witness to the end times, but that we are just on the business end of history’s business-as-usual — that we are in no way special.
In the original Greek, the word apocalypse means simply a revelation, an uncovering. And so there is one sense in which these days are truly, literally, apocalyptic. The world itself is being revealed with a startling and surreal clarity.
Much of what is being revealed is ugly: the rot of inequality in the bones of our societies, the lethal inefficiency of free-market capitalism, the bewildering cruelty and stupidity of many of the people in positions of apparent leadership. But there are beautiful things, too, being revealed with great clarity and force. Of these, the one that gives me the most hope in this sad and frightening time is that despite the damage done by the presiding ideology of individualism, there remains a determination to act out of a sense of shared purpose.

This Is Not the End of the World and You Are Not a Prepper
The prepper vision of the world is bleak and ruthless. Something better is happening now.

“Seriously, gogo, the world is not going to end.”
True, but...... this is the beginning of the end of the illusion of history. This is where the private sphere begins to retake the public sphere. This is the beginning of our final participation.

Chickens and Pansies are sticking their heads in the sand, but a few brave patriots are standing tough and preparing an appropriate response.
Are you having fun yet?
I hadn't quite thought of it that way, Princess....... but if you insist..... I'll try harder.

This is entirely understandable...... certainly as our initial reaction.
That a pandemic might bring us to question our collective future....... as simply an indefinite continuation of our material and quantitative achievements, is still only a vague possibility.
One could hope that a global pandemic might, at least, forestall a global armed conflict, but even that hope does not seem to match an increase in tensions on the ground.

there has been only a very limited deployment of 5G in Italy, in five cities at small scale as of Jan 1, 2020. try again...
You wanted a problem, now find a solution.
Thank you, Princess!
