I continue to be distracted by the impeachment process, but the end may now be in sight. Does this mean that within ten days we will have forgotten about it, as stated by foot? I don’t think so. Will the country be more divided as a result? Quite possibly.
What will be the political fallout.......?
Because of lack of cohesion or coherence on the Democratic side, Trump has a good chance of being re-elected.
What may be more critical will be the control of the Senate. The House will remain Democratic, hopefully.
It is possible that Bloomberg would be the strongest contender against Trump, if no one else emerges.
This may be back to business as usual. It seems very unlikely that Trump, or anyone else will be tempted to play politics with Disclosure.
If something is to come out in another country, Ukraine is still the most likely
If there is going to be a ‘glitch’, it will be out of the blue.
2.............
Let’s get back to personhood.........
If there is going to be a conceptual breakthrough, this will be the most likely arena.
This is where the mystics/pantheists and materialists are most vulnerable. We could easily subvert both at once.
The main problem would be with the prophetic folks, who are still strongly attached to metaphysical dualism...... the dichotomy of Creator/Creation.
And I notice that Google has sent me a link to the following.......
Conti's Reclamation of Farrer's Cosmological Personalism: A Pragmatist's Response
Roger A. Badham
The Personalist Forum
Vol. 12, No. 1, Metaphysical Personalism (Spring 1996), pp. 18-34
Hardly any of this or related journal material is accessible by me, on line. I have not seen anything, however, that speaks to a small world.
This particular journal ceased publication in 1999.
The use of the adjective ‘cosmological’ in the above context appears to be largely gratuitous....... ‘metaphysical’ might be more accurate.
6...........
Those in the prophetic tradition are not given to identifying Creator and Creatures. The exception is Jesus, who had no offspring.
The concept of personhood comes mainly from the Trinity, explicitly consisting of three persons. If God is a person, and Jesus is a person, and Alice is a person, what is the ontological distinction?
What do personalists say (qua personalism)........?
It is an approach or system of thought which regards or tends to regard the person as the ultimate explanatory, epistemological, ontological, and axiological principle of all reality, although these areas of thought are not stressed equally by all personalists and there is tension between idealist, phenomenological, existentialist, and Thomist versions of personalism.
A person is a being of ultimate value. We can either say that all persons are created equal, or, as monists, say the is only one person. I consider trinitarianism to be a step in this direction.
What do we say to the pantheists......?
The only knowledge of this any cosmic existence must originate in the self. There is no reason to suppose there is more than one self, in any ultimate, ontological sense.
All consciousness is derived from a primordial observer.
This is simply a cosmic solipsism, if you will. This notion follows pretty much from the testimony of most any mystic.
In other words, the mystic becomes one with God. All of us are would-be mystics...... or mystics at the core of our being...... poets and artists.
7:20.........
The favored alternative to personalism, besides theism, is atomism.
Theism, by its definition, is personal, as compared to deism, for instance.
The other prophetic traditions have us created in the image of God. How are we to take that, if not personally?
The only excuse for not being a personalist is to be a humanist. I will argue that, that is a rather poor excuse.
9:10...........
Right from the start, we have a problem......... humanism does not rank as a philosophy. For instance, in the SEP, humanism is to be found mainly in conjunction with existentialism.
Humanism is, very often, implicitly based on the notion of human progress, which, in its turn, is explicitly based on the notion of material progress.
If the notion of material progress is being questioned, humanism is of little assistance.
The core of existentialism is its focus on subjective human experience...... that man is the measure of all things.
To this extent, existentialism and humanism are implicitly, if not explicitly, personalist.
Only if you are a diehard materialist can you escape the clutches of personalism.
And, by the way, you may recall my anguish over personal freedom. Well, check out Aquinas’ account of dual agency, for instance. I’m hardly alone in facing this problem.
Will our ultimate identity with the Monad........ our ascent of Monadnock.... will it entail our having to transcend the personal?
No, not as long as we consider altered states of consciousness to be integral to the person........ dreaming, for instance.
Hey, we haven’t lived, if we haven’t experienced cosmic consciousness. Some are more willing than others to defer the ecstatic. Me? I have to be on the lookout for the next glitch. It keeps me out of worse trouble.
