Ack,
I think smelly has had a bad day, and he just wants to share the misery.
There is nothing wrong with that. Misery and happiness were meant to be shared.
9:30........
I have suggested to Ack that we are not required to have the last word here.
There are plenty of other things requiring attention. smelly does know what buttons to push.
I would like to get back to dear hobbit........
hobbit does point to a cosmic consciousness, rather than just cosmic ‘energy’. Very astute.
Cosmic consciousness does not have to be personal. Pantheists are certainly not oblivious.
However, it is fair to say that the acknowledgement of consciousness does present us with a slippery slope.......
Folks in AI and biophysics are very aware of the slipperiness, and, consequently, they have taken great pains to never let consciousness get its foot in the scientific door.
By deploying the notion of strong AI, they could keep the hope of machine consciousness alive indefinitely.
There are trillions of dollars at stake in the quest for machine intelligence. Are we not already there? Should we not have given up the ghost in the machine long ago?
I point to the distinction between the emulation of intelligence and the mere simulation of intelligence.
The famous Turing test deftly manages to ignore this ontological difference, by committing itself utterly to platitudes of behaviorism, long after behaviorists had deserted that ship.
I doubt that hobbit concerns himself with such questions.
Why then cosmic consciousness, and not just cosmic energy?
I’m really not sure.......
Perhaps he is being just a little more honest than his confrères in fringe physics.
Another test of his honesty is whether or not he is willing to embrace the Anthropic Principle. I’ve don’t recall that phrase ever passing his lips.
That is a very big oversight for all his fellow fringies.
I’ll have to hand it to hobbit.... he does not shy away from the radical nature of his cosmology. He does not pull those punches.
He frequently refers to the inhaling and exhaling of his cosmic fields, almost as if they were animated, in the fashion of Hindu cosmologists..... the breath of Brahman.
The entire notion of spirit is an implicit acknowledgment of its correlation with breath.
