Where did all the Open Minds Forum members go?

Fri Oct 19, 2012 12:29 pm by Admin

With Open Minds Forum restored now for almost half a year at it's new location with forumotion.com we can now turn to look at reaching out to OMF's original members who have not yet returned home. OMF's original membership was over 6,000 members strong, prior to the proboards suspension, according to the rolls of the time. We can probably safely assume that some of those accounts were unidentified socks. If we were to assume a reasonable guess of maybe as many as 30% possible sock accounts then that would leave potentially somewhere between 4800 to 4900 possible real members to locate. That is still a substantial number of people.

Who were all these people? Some were average individuals with common interests in ufology, exopolitics, globalism, corruption, earthchanges, science and technology, and a variety of other interests. Some just enjoyed being part of a vibrant and unusually interesting community. Others were representative of various insider groups participating in observation and outreach projects, while still others were bonafide intelligence community personnel. All with stake in the hunt for truth in one fashion or another. Some in support of truth, and communication. Others seeking real disclosure and forms of proof. And others highly skeptical of anything or limited subjects. The smallest division of membership being wholly anti-disclosure oriented.

So where did these members vanish to? They had many options. There are almost innumerable other forums out there on the topics of UFO's or Exopolitics, the Unexplained, and Conspiracy Theory. Did they disappear into the world-wide network of forum inhabitants? Did some go find new homes on chatrooms or individual blogs? Did they participate in ufo conventions or other public events and gatherings? How about those who represented groups in special access? Or IC and military observers? Those with academic affiliations? Where did they all go and what would be the best way to reach out and extend an invitation to return?

And what constitutes a situation deserving of their time and participation? Is the archive enough? How exactly do people within the paradigm most desire to define a community? Is it amenities, humanity or simply population size for exposure? Most of the special guests have been emailed and have expressed that population size for exposure is what most motivates them. But not all. Long-time member Dan Smith has other priorities and values motivating his participation. Should this open opportunities for unattached junior guests who have experience and dialog to contribute to the world? How best to make use of OMF's time, experience and resources?

Many skeptics would like to see the historical guardian of discourse opportunity to just up and disappear; go into permanent stasis. They think that not everyone has a right to speak about their experiences and if there is no proof involved then there can philosophically be no value to discourse. I personally would respectfully disagree with them. Discourse has always been the prelude to meaningful relationships and meaningful mutual relationships have always been the prelude to exchanges of proof. In a contentious social environment with regards to communication vs disclosure how do we best re-establish a haven for those preludes? Is it only the "if we build it they will come" answer? Well considering OMF has been largely fully functional over the last four or five months this line of reasoning is not necessarily true. So what would be the best way re-establish this? Your suggestions are sought. Please comment.

Who do we think we are? - Page 20 Empty Who do we think we are?

Post by dan Wed May 22, 2019 4:08 am

    First topic message reminder :

    Ok, sports fans.........

Before we ask ourselves any other questions........

Here is the #1 priority question........

Who the heck do we think we are?

I’m not aware that this question has ever been seriously asked before.  The only precedent of which I’m aware is when it was simply posed by Paul Gauguin.

I would not pose this question unless I thought I had the rudiments of an answer.  I’m seeking help from anyone who would be willing to participate in fleshing out the answer.
    ..........

(The continuation of this ‘topic post’ is the no. 3 post (on the first page https://openmindsforum.forumotion.com/t361-who-do-we-think-we-are ) of this topic.....)

    Gary,

    Perhaps we should.

However, I’m doubtful that there is any point of asking others, if we have no clue about ourselves.

I did ask you about your own encounters.  We don’t even know if the Navy tic tacs contained visitors.  Any alien presence will, ultimately, force us ask about our own presence.

You might at least pretend to be interested in our topic.  You might even answer your phone, if you wanted to stay engaged.

    Just a thought, Gary.
    ..........

There is no indication that hobbit has ever asked himself a why question.

    How innocent can anyone be?

By age six, most children have been conditioned to stop asking why.

But some of us never grow up.

I’m probably not the only one to notice that hobbit has serious issues with consistency.

The crucial element of hobbit’s cosmology is an all pervasive cosmic consciousness.

Most folks pursuing alternative cosmologies hesitate before positing anything more than a semi physical cosmic energy field.

There is no belief here or non-belief.

I’m not an idiot, it’s very simple Ack, I’m just a talking thinking monkey.

As hobbit, I also enjoy being with my flowers, dogs and snails to having stupid human conversations with believers.

Belief in science and/or persons is a dead end.

    We are a here, duh.

No belief required accept by those who follow.

    I follow no thing.

    Flow...

Flow is not belief, stop lying about zen and awareness Ack, just be a good believer.

Maybe your masters will reward you, prob not.

I have spoken about belief as virus and thoughts as snakes.

    Belief is rubbish.

    I’m mostly with Dawkins here.

I am not a materialist, but here we are.

You can’t say more about it than that without being in fairy land.

What you are now doing on OMF is not getting to the bottom of our delusion.

    Far from it.

    Ignorance here is profound.

    silly smelly,

Committing yourself to the flow.  That strikes me as the ultimate faith.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
smelly is being much more Christian than almost any Christians.

    Dan, a profoundly stupid huckster.

My life is happening here, no faith needed.

You have just never accepted the way the cosmos works dumb Dan, not logical and reasonable, spontaneously, which makes anything you say about it a lie.

Deny it in your own lives all you like.

But coward Ack sack was too stupid to realize that.

    Now he mimics Dan.

Odorless, tasteless, saltless; just like the rest of the world settles for.

    You guys are getting dumber.

Dumber might be better depending on the time and gravity.

    Ack,

I think smelly has had a bad day, and he just wants to share the misery.

There is nothing wrong with that.  Misery and happiness were meant to be shared.

    9:30........

I have suggested to Ack that we are not required to have the last word here.

There are plenty of other things requiring attention.  smelly does know what buttons to push.

I would like to get back to dear hobbit........

hobbit does point to a cosmic consciousness, rather than just cosmic ‘energy’.  Very astute.

Cosmic consciousness does not have to be personal.  Pantheists are certainly not oblivious.

However, it is fair to say that the acknowledgement of consciousness does present us with a slippery slope.......

Folks in AI and biophysics are very aware of the slipperiness, and, consequently, they have taken great pains to never let consciousness get its foot in the scientific door.

By deploying the notion of strong AI, they could keep the hope of machine consciousness alive indefinitely.

There are trillions of dollars at stake in the quest for machine intelligence.  Are we not already there?  Should we not have given up the ghost in the machine long ago?

I point to the distinction between the emulation of intelligence and the mere simulation of intelligence.

The famous Turing test deftly manages to ignore this ontological difference, by committing itself utterly to platitudes of behaviorism, long after behaviorists had deserted that ship.

I doubt that hobbit concerns himself with such questions.

Why then cosmic consciousness, and not just cosmic energy?

    I’m really not sure.......

Perhaps he is being just a little more honest than his confrères in fringe physics.

Another test of his honesty is whether or not he is willing to embrace the Anthropic Principle.  I’ve don’t recall that phrase ever passing his lips.

That is a very big oversight for all his fellow fringies.

I’ll have to hand it to hobbit.... he does not shy away from the radical nature of his cosmology.  He does not pull those punches.

He frequently refers to the inhaling and exhaling of his cosmic fields, almost as if they were animated, in the fashion of Hindu cosmologists..... the breath of Brahman.

The entire notion of spirit is an implicit acknowledgment of its correlation with breath.

You can either go along with UG and see the system for what it is or you can try to prop up the appearances.

It doesn't matter either way really.

That should be a prompt to do what I wonder?
