Where did all the Open Minds Forum members go?

Fri Oct 19, 2012 12:29 pm by Admin

With Open Minds Forum restored now for almost half a year at it's new location with forumotion.com we can now turn to look at reaching out to OMF's original members who have not yet returned home. OMF's original membership was over 6,000 members strong, prior to the proboards suspension, according to the rolls of the time. We can probably safely assume that some of those accounts were unidentified socks. If we were to assume a reasonable guess of maybe as many as 30% possible sock accounts then that would leave potentially somewhere between 4800 to 4900 possible real members to locate. That is still a substantial number of people.

Who were all these people? Some were average individuals with common interests in ufology, exopolitics, globalism, corruption, earthchanges, science and technology, and a variety of other interests. Some just enjoyed being part of a vibrant and unusually interesting community. Others were representative of various insider groups participating in observation and outreach projects, while still others were bonafide intelligence community personnel. All with stake in the hunt for truth in one fashion or another. Some in support of truth, and communication. Others seeking real disclosure and forms of proof. And others highly skeptical of anything or limited subjects. The smallest division of membership being wholly anti-disclosure oriented.

So where did these members vanish to? They had many options. There are almost innumerable other forums out there on the topics of UFO's or Exopolitics, the Unexplained, and Conspiracy Theory. Did they disappear into the world-wide network of forum inhabitants? Did some go find new homes on chatrooms or individual blogs? Did they participate in ufo conventions or other public events and gatherings? How about those who represented groups in special access? Or IC and military observers? Those with academic affiliations? Where did they all go and what would be the best way to reach out and extend an invitation to return?

And what constitutes a situation deserving of their time and participation? Is the archive enough? How exactly do people within the paradigm most desire to define a community? Is it amenities, humanity or simply population size for exposure? Most of the special guests have been emailed and have expressed that population size for exposure is what most motivates them. But not all. Long-time member Dan Smith has other priorities and values motivating his participation. Should this open opportunities for unattached junior guests who have experience and dialog to contribute to the world? How best to make use of OMF's time, experience and resources?

Many skeptics would like to see the historical guardian of discourse opportunity to just up and disappear; go into permanent stasis. They think that not everyone has a right to speak about their experiences and if there is no proof involved then there can philosophically be no value to discourse. I personally would respectfully disagree with them. Discourse has always been the prelude to meaningful relationships and meaningful mutual relationships have always been the prelude to exchanges of proof. In a contentious social environment with regards to communication vs disclosure how do we best re-establish a haven for those preludes? Is it only the "if we build it they will come" answer? Well considering OMF has been largely fully functional over the last four or five months this line of reasoning is not necessarily true. So what would be the best way re-establish this? Your suggestions are sought. Please comment.

"You cannot catch hold of it, nor can you get rid of it. In not being able to get it, you get it. When you speak, it is silent. When you are silent, it speaks." -Zen Poem

Another perspective of what was spoken in speaking from the perspective of having drowned...

Who, feeling as you do was felt in feeling

Love as a life raft was in having

Then slipping away from has was having

And drowned was "I" then drowned in drowning

Remove the 'I' all that remains is that which is happening.

"You cannot control your thoughts, and you cannot control your feelings, because there is no controller. You are your thoughts and your feelings, and they are running along, running along, running along.

Just sit and watch them. There they go. You are still breathing, aren’t you? Still growing your hair; still seeing and hearing. Are YOU doing that? Is breathing something that YOU do? Do you see? Do you organize the operations of your eyes, and know exactly how to work those rods and cones in the retina? Do you do that?

It happens, and it is a happening. Your breathing is happening. Your thinking is happening. Your feeling is happening. Your hearing, your seeing, the clouds are happening across the sky. The sky is happening blue; the sun is happening shining. There it is: all this happening.

May I introduce you? This is yourself. This is a vision of who you really are, and the way you really function. You function by happening, that is to say, by spontaneous occurrence.

This is not a state of affairs that you should realize. I cannot possibly preach about it to you, because the minute you start thinking, ‘I should understand that,’ the stupid notion that ‘I’ should bring it about arises again, when there is no ‘you’ to bring it about. That is why I am not preaching. You can only preach to egos. All I can do is talk about what is.

Once you have seen this you can return to the world of practical affairs with a new spirit. You have seen that the universe is at root a magical illusion and a fabulous game, and that there is no separate ‘you’ to get something out of it, as if life were a bank to be robbed."

    Rolling Eyes

LOL Stop so controlling or is it conniving, contriving. It sure isn't contracting as much as it is preaching.

Sorry, I'm old, spent a lot of time in the circle game... I get cranky at times.

I see clearly what’s happening behind this conversation, though I would express it better in a poem than just writing thoughts.

    the game is afoot
the hare has beat to path
    the fox is close behind
is it a fox who pursues
or just a hare wearing a fox
or is it foxes wearing hares
    who is chasing who
    round and round
we go with the language game
    speak or don’t
    be or don’t
    think or don’t
but who is it deciding to do any of it
    who decides to chase
    and who decides to run
    if you are chased today
you will get your chance to pursue
and round and round we go
say hi to the goat and turtle as you run
they seem to be the only ones watching
they no longer chase or flee
their attention was drawn to a cave
and there they sit by the fire
ever now and then a fox or hare
stops by for a chat winded
the goat and turtle just laugh
at all the silly running in circles

You have every right to put me to the chase.

But I assure you all, we are not racing.

And I will win every time.

For I will turn back on you and force you to stop where you are as the fox or the hare.

The rest is up to you.

Yes, we are going around in circles, but just look up at the sky at night. If you haven't noticed, that's what the universe is doing.

It’s a dance and when you dance you don’t dance to get somewhere. When you wake up you turn the confusion into a dance.

Maybe the circle game is the only game.

When a thief is robbing a house and the police enter on the ground floor, the thief goes up to the second floor.

I think the thief is a rascal. I'm a rascal too. I'm just being a rascal, don't mind me.

Letting go of effort the thief is caught on the first floor.

I'm a pretender. I was born a pretender and will die a pretender, but I will die dancing and laughing as a pretender.

We are all pretenders. Are we not?

    Indeed.

    Chips off of some block.

    Circles within circles.

What’s important to know is how best to live in this world.

But that’s really only important to you now isn’t it?

If anyone takes on what is best for others, they are already distracted.

You can’t do anything really for anyone but yourself.

    That’s not selfish.

The sages taught us how to live free from fear and worry.

    Who are we to argue?

Free from fear and worry means free of suffering and that’s a great place to float and flow.

Why do I share anything on OMF, only to give others a chance to realize the same.

Did anyone give me this mission, no, when I learned how my mind works after observing it and testing it, it seemed taking responsibilty for myself my only move and that led to taking responsibility to demonstrate living the Way of peace.

    I’m deluded of course Wink

I need nor want anything from anyone.

    And I’m grateful for that.

And humbled so much of my life is just a sham and setup.

By the way Smelly, I wasn't trying to put you or anyone to the chase. Like I said, I was simply offering another perspective of the same no-thingness. If it came off as preachy it was not the intention.

I'm starting to think that posting in OMF is a dance that results in less people dancing and more people clashing. I'm not here to run a race or fight a fight, but everyone interprets everything to match their own realities. Too many opinions and misunderstandings in a forum format create more diversity not less. I guess the only way left to unify is to just sit down and shut up, but it has to be a natural middle way, not a forced or restrained way. I trust others will find true peace and tranquility in their own time and at their own pace.

I have nothing left to say in regards to awareness or enlightenment or love or understanding. It is not found in words. I give up. I surrender. I'm going out with a whimper of peace. Do what though wilt.

Smell the flowers. All that we have is the here and now and my wanting to shout it from the rooftops is distracting others and myself from it.

    Goodbye.

P.S. - I don't think Smelly should stop what he is doing here on OMF. It has helped me in many ways. I just don't feel it is working for me at this time. Smelly posts enough in here anyway to trap anyone who comes around. No need for two spider webs, one is enough. One trap of no-trapping is more than enough.

Relax Ack, share as you feel, do not doing, Wei Wu Wei.

I know it feels icky to be so open, but it has supreme personal value you sharing like this.

I applaud your courage to do so always and anyway you feel.

But be ready to give a reply when challenged, or be silent, shrug.

Words in their proper place are powerful, not evil things.

I think that’s fair to do in a public forum.

Also, I know 99 our of 100 people are materialistic, especially if religious.

It’s fairly easy to trap them and send them reeling, I don’t do it for a purpose other than to call them out.

If they are going to post, better have something real to say.

Understand yin and yang and your eyes will begin to open. Everything is of course fundamentally yang and yin, and if you understand that you really don't need to understand anything else.

"Before I had studied Chan (Zen) for thirty years, I saw mountains as mountains, and rivers as rivers. When I arrived at a more intimate knowledge, I came to the point where I saw that mountains are not mountains, and rivers are not rivers. But now that I have got its very substance I am at rest. For it's just that I see mountains once again as mountains, and rivers once again as rivers." - Zen Saying

I’ll give you guys a big clue.

Portals are to Aliens as the BPWH is to the universe. That is to say, that the reason the monk sits alone near a river is to be able to drink from the air without swallowing his own throat. The meaning of life is to find the monk who drinks without swallowing and then to draw a circle on his bald head with a sharpie while he meditates near the river. Then the circle on his head will open up a portal to the cave of dragons and seashells if the drone and the hive have stored up enough honey. Find that place, for that is where the King stands dreaming and the Queen Bee lays blinking and all the stars of heaven dance together in peace.

They can inspire or destroy and sometimes destroying is the best thing to do.

The ashes of destruction grow incredible flowers.

    Arjuna knows this now.

I found a way to fight the fight, which was to end the fight within and then fight no thing else.

Then your words become seeds of life when you fertilize them with your own ashes and flowers grow everywhere they fall.

    “The birds and their chatter overwhelm me with feeling;
At times like this I lie down in my straw hut (hat).
    Cherries shine with Crimson fire;
    Willows trail slender boughs.
    The morning sun pops from the jaws of blue peaks;
Bright clouds are washed in the green pond.
Whoever thought I would leave the dusty world
And come bounding up the southern slope of Cold Mountain?”

Smelly, even when the fight within has ended words continue to be a challenge. The challenge is that the English language with its subject verb format is not well suited to explain IT. Even if IT could be easily explained in words, at the end of the day they are still just words. It’s like trying to share the experience of tasting a fresh peach to someone who has never eaten a peach before. Words can never come close to the actual experience itself.

So now I find myself in a position where I can either stand under the tree enjoying the fruit and becon others to join me or I can become the tree itself and enjoy just being and share only with those who come looking for fruit. After all, agape is the purest form of gravity, meaning just being the tree will likely attract more people than standing there waving my arms like a fool. The tree’s goal is not to attract others to it, but it does a fine job doing just that by not doing that.

Meh...I is a fool, once a fool, always a fool. Maybe a wiser fool, but a fool nonetheless.

Oh well. Middle way is only way. I’ll wave my arms like a fool when I feel like waving my arms like a fool and I’ll sit silent like a tree when I feel like being silent like a tree.

These are good times. The garden of life is as beautiful as the darkness of death. Very Happy

Doug, I’m glad you are enjoying some good old Smelly Zazen Tao yummies of Wattyness. I picked those up from the Smelly Goat himself. Very Happy

Nothing can replace our own experiences though. I’ll share some Sophia wisdom that was once share with me.

“Take what you like from it and then make it your own. Life itself is always the greatest teacher.”

Your heart felt words to me are the best kind.

    IT can never be explained.

    Ever.

We can only describe what IT is NOT, and observe the 10k things as part of IT.

Do as you like, say what you like.

How about not trying and just enjoying the fruit of the tree and offer it to anyone who stops by?

When I write, I’m sharing joy.

The words come easy when you don’t have a point.

The words come easy when honey is flowing out of your mouth.

The point isn’t the words, it’s the honey in your words, if any.

Most words are bitter or not satisfying, honey soaked words are delicious.

You and I met for a reason, to remind ourselves to keep letting go.

Here, I’ll fill in for Dan...

Um, the BPW is the thang, yes the BPW will save us and Jesus will come again. Oh, hey all, I’m Jesus too. Oh, there are no stars and people on Earth. Hey, that might be a connection!

    Wink

Now I’ll fill in for Cy, our host...

Shamrocks and guns baby! No one is coming on my land!

    Ack Ack

Nobody knows what the BPWH is, and they're too embarrassed to admit it.
