After reviewing Leibniz’ PII, I’m hopeful that I have a better grasp.  

It was the cosmological thought experiment that had me baffled....... consider a universe consisting of two identical spheres.......

How many spheres are there?  

The ‘correct’ answer is...... one.

The only way I can rationalize the philosophical answer is to discount the visual sense.  

Even if vision were allowed, we might have worry about mirrors or the curvature of space.  

If I could simultaneously touch both spheres, would that not falsify the PII?  

Introducing an observer would, of course, violate the stipulation of a universe with only two objects.  

This is necessarily being done purely as a ‘gedanken’ experiment, evidently.  

But even if two objects can become one, this is only a tiny step towards Parmenidean monism.  

His main argument for monism is that change is illusory, but all objects, material or mental, are subject to constant change.

All that remains is some cosmic Being, beyond space and time.  

Eastern philosophers would argue that only the Abyss remains...... beyond the play of maya.  

As a relationalist, I would have to argue that no solitary being may exist...... we can’t have a Creator without a Creation, for instance.  

The monism of the BPW is mainly to counter the dualism of the Cartesian variety.  

As an ontological monist, I argue for the supervenience of love.  

I’m doubtful that Parmenides would have been persuaded by such an ontology.
