Where did all the Open Minds Forum members go?

Fri Oct 19, 2012 12:29 pm by Admin

With Open Minds Forum restored now for almost half a year at it's new location with forumotion.com we can now turn to look at reaching out to OMF's original members who have not yet returned home. OMF's original membership was over 6,000 members strong, prior to the proboards suspension, according to the rolls of the time. We can probably safely assume that some of those accounts were unidentified socks. If we were to assume a reasonable guess of maybe as many as 30% possible sock accounts then that would leave potentially somewhere between 4800 to 4900 possible real members to locate. That is still a substantial number of people.

Who were all these people? Some were average individuals with common interests in ufology, exopolitics, globalism, corruption, earthchanges, science and technology, and a variety of other interests. Some just enjoyed being part of a vibrant and unusually interesting community. Others were representative of various insider groups participating in observation and outreach projects, while still others were bonafide intelligence community personnel. All with stake in the hunt for truth in one fashion or another. Some in support of truth, and communication. Others seeking real disclosure and forms of proof. And others highly skeptical of anything or limited subjects. The smallest division of membership being wholly anti-disclosure oriented.

So where did these members vanish to? They had many options. There are almost innumerable other forums out there on the topics of UFO's or Exopolitics, the Unexplained, and Conspiracy Theory. Did they disappear into the world-wide network of forum inhabitants? Did some go find new homes on chatrooms or individual blogs? Did they participate in ufo conventions or other public events and gatherings? How about those who represented groups in special access? Or IC and military observers? Those with academic affiliations? Where did they all go and what would be the best way to reach out and extend an invitation to return?

And what constitutes a situation deserving of their time and participation? Is the archive enough? How exactly do people within the paradigm most desire to define a community? Is it amenities, humanity or simply population size for exposure? Most of the special guests have been emailed and have expressed that population size for exposure is what most motivates them. But not all. Long-time member Dan Smith has other priorities and values motivating his participation. Should this open opportunities for unattached junior guests who have experience and dialog to contribute to the world? How best to make use of OMF's time, experience and resources?

Many skeptics would like to see the historical guardian of discourse opportunity to just up and disappear; go into permanent stasis. They think that not everyone has a right to speak about their experiences and if there is no proof involved then there can philosophically be no value to discourse. I personally would respectfully disagree with them. Discourse has always been the prelude to meaningful relationships and meaningful mutual relationships have always been the prelude to exchanges of proof. In a contentious social environment with regards to communication vs disclosure how do we best re-establish a haven for those preludes? Is it only the "if we build it they will come" answer? Well considering OMF has been largely fully functional over the last four or five months this line of reasoning is not necessarily true. So what would be the best way re-establish this? Your suggestions are sought. Please comment.

Only Dan can know who he really is. I wouldn't even trust the Princess' opinion of who you are Dan, and I think she would be the first to tell you that.

As far as the unrighteous go, who are the unrighteous and why are they unrighteous and what does it really mean to be saved anyway? Maybe we don't need to be saved from anything except from the idea that we need to be saved.

I'm not sure why I'm posting here today. I guess I feel that because I have been given much I too must give, but yet we are all given everything we need all the time so there really is nothing I can do to give back in terms of understanding unless directly asked...and even then all that can be done is to point others to themselves for answers, yet here I am stumbling with effort trying to give understanding when it is not something that can be given....lol.

The river is always flowing and giving, but I think we become our own obstacles sometimes merely by trying too hard to drink from the river. Our mouths will never be big enough to drink it all in. It's better maybe to drown in the river.

The best thing we can do to give back is just to continue to learn and grow from life and to look for ways to help those without a voice and to try to be judicially compassionate to those around.

Love is not a victory march
    It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

whoknows, every Master knows their words and all words are dung.

You should love crap, the world is full of it.

Guess what Awarenss gets to do, shovel it.

Is it better to shovel poop or make it?

    It depends.

See, we don’t know much, do we.

    Who are we?

    Don’t know...

    Better Ack...progress toward nothing.

Now let go of your understanding.

You can’t find it or give that to anyone.

I believe Jesus also offered that pointer.

That way, everything else smells like roses.

Maybe thought is just a pointer.

    Hello, Cy, OMF II - Part 2 - Page 13 Though10

Thinking in moderation is fine. It is a better servant than master. I learned from experience though and nothing anybody could have told me would have helped me understand this. So perhaps it's useless for me to even mention it. Life has a way of teaching us what we need.

I think I'll make OMF a Tuesday thing. See ya'll in a week! Don't forget to smell the flowers!

Thought is not real, nor can it represent the real, only what is not real.

There is no first or beginning, it’s a wave and it’s material, there is what has always been happening now.

Your life experience is your proof.

GC, he said it, there is no separation.

    None.

It’s not any more complicated or simple than that.

The implication of that truth is undeniable.

And the volume will just keep going up, the vibrations will shake this world.

    But what is all this?

    Don’t know...

Mion, best to ignore those buttheads, ha, they are fairly unhinged.

You did have me laughing out loud tho, you have talentz.

Definitely ignore ME, I’m completely unhinged...and I smell.

(Former student in a post-graduate psychotherapy program (Art Therapy) here and pareidolia is the kind of stuff we studied Smile

Fun facts and terms worth knowing:

    sciencelive.com wrote:
"The Rorschach inkblot test uses pareidolia in an attempt to gain insight into a person's mental state".

But that's just one, among several, applications for it in  psychological assessment.

wiki wrote:Visual Agnosia is an impairment in recognition of visually presented objects.

wiki wrote:Apperceptive Agnosia: If a person is unable to recognize objects because they cannot perceive correct forms of the objects, although their knowledge of the objects is intact, they have apperceptive agnosia.

This one is a lot more common than you think. For example, they screen med. students who want to specialize in radiology for this disorder. If they fall on the wrong side of the spectrum for it, they are told to look into other specialties. One only has to look at an X-Ray and all of its visual ambiguities in the soft tissue area's to understand why that is.

    Here's another one:

wiki wrote:Inattentional blindness also known as perceptual blindness, is a psychological lack of attention that is not associated with any vision defects or deficits. It may be further defined as the event in which an individual fails to perceive an unexpected stimulus that is in plain sight. When it simply becomes impossible for one to attend to all the stimuli in a given situation, a temporary blindness effect can take place as a result; that is, individuals fail to see objects or stimuli that are unexpected and quite often salient.

An example of this is seen in the photo below of a man mowing the lawn who seems totally oblivious of the towering tornado in the near distance.

    Here's another example... it's hilarious!

    Dan,

    'Nuts and bolts' as in:

"I just heard a knock at my door. I wonder who the visitor is."

As opposed to the 'non-nuts and bolts':

"I just heard a knock at my door. However the knock is merely an echo, and the door but an illusion."

    Yeah, yeah -- fine.

Now let's find out who is standing on the porch!

99, the basketball thing is a classic!

I showed it to my nephew when he was about 7 and he immediately picked up on 'the thing' (I won't spoil it here) however.

Years later he still boasts about his observational skills. One of his proudest childhood memories, it seems! Very Happy

That's cool! I thought I was the only who liked stuff like this... so glad you enjoy it too!

    ----------------------
    Just a thought.
There are a lot of UFO pics out there and I wonder how many of the photographers of them only saw the UFO after the film was developed where inattentional blindness is the reason why they missed seeing the UFO at the time when they photographed it?

They would have missed actually seeing the UFO because they were focusing on taking a photo of something else that was in the same frame at the time when they took the photo.

So this is why it's good to know that there is such a thing as inattentional blindness especially for UFO investigators.

Hollywood etc. definitely trying to manipulate perceptions: that's all it has ever done and especially so with the UFO subject.

And a combination of good, bad and indifferent 'visitors.'
