Where did all the Open Minds Forum members go?

Fri Oct 19, 2012 12:29 pm by Admin

With Open Minds Forum restored now for almost half a year at it's new location with forumotion.com we can now turn to look at reaching out to OMF's original members who have not yet returned home. OMF's original membership was over 6,000 members strong, prior to the proboards suspension, according to the rolls of the time. We can probably safely assume that some of those accounts were unidentified socks. If we were to assume a reasonable guess of maybe as many as 30% possible sock accounts then that would leave potentially somewhere between 4800 to 4900 possible real members to locate. That is still a substantial number of people.

Who were all these people? Some were average individuals with common interests in ufology, exopolitics, globalism, corruption, earthchanges, science and technology, and a variety of other interests. Some just enjoyed being part of a vibrant and unusually interesting community. Others were representative of various insider groups participating in observation and outreach projects, while still others were bonafide intelligence community personnel. All with stake in the hunt for truth in one fashion or another. Some in support of truth, and communication. Others seeking real disclosure and forms of proof. And others highly skeptical of anything or limited subjects. The smallest division of membership being wholly anti-disclosure oriented.

So where did these members vanish to? They had many options. There are almost innumerable other forums out there on the topics of UFO's or Exopolitics, the Unexplained, and Conspiracy Theory. Did they disappear into the world-wide network of forum inhabitants? Did some go find new homes on chatrooms or individual blogs? Did they participate in ufo conventions or other public events and gatherings? How about those who represented groups in special access? Or IC and military observers? Those with academic affiliations? Where did they all go and what would be the best way to reach out and extend an invitation to return?

And what constitutes a situation deserving of their time and participation? Is the archive enough? How exactly do people within the paradigm most desire to define a community? Is it amenities, humanity or simply population size for exposure? Most of the special guests have been emailed and have expressed that population size for exposure is what most motivates them. But not all. Long-time member Dan Smith has other priorities and values motivating his participation. Should this open opportunities for unattached junior guests who have experience and dialog to contribute to the world? How best to make use of OMF's time, experience and resources?

Many skeptics would like to see the historical guardian of discourse opportunity to just up and disappear; go into permanent stasis. They think that not everyone has a right to speak about their experiences and if there is no proof involved then there can philosophically be no value to discourse. I personally would respectfully disagree with them. Discourse has always been the prelude to meaningful relationships and meaningful mutual relationships have always been the prelude to exchanges of proof. In a contentious social environment with regards to communication vs disclosure how do we best re-establish a haven for those preludes? Is it only the "if we build it they will come" answer? Well considering OMF has been largely fully functional over the last four or five months this line of reasoning is not necessarily true. So what would be the best way re-establish this? Your suggestions are sought. Please comment.

    99,

I would give him a bit more credit than that.

    Dig the song hobbit.

Got the tingles a bunch listening.

    I get electric tingles constantly.

I wonder if people feel waves of electricty sometimes.

    Shrug.

    Very tingly.

I can’t speak to the return to Alpha.

Do we head back as enlightened kids to do over?

I wouldn’t mind getting back to the garden as a Star.

This was interesting to find now...

“Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love.”

How should we be able to forget those ancient myths that are at the beginning of all peoples, the myths about dragons that at the last moment turn into princesses; perhaps all the dragons of our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us once beautiful and brave. Perhaps everything terrible is in its deepest being something helpless that wants help from us.

So you must not be frightened if a sadness rises up before you larger than any you have ever seen; if a restiveness, like light and cloudshadows, passes over your hands and over all you do. You must think that something is happening with you, that life has not forgotten you, that it holds you in its hand; it will not let you fall. Why do you want to shut out of your life any uneasiness, any miseries, or any depressions? For after all, you do not know what work these conditions are doing inside you.

~ Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet

I for one am very very at one with the dragons.

And a little insight into the song I posted...

    No, smelly,

The best possible world inhabits a closed timelike curve, embedded in Eternity. One doesn’t redo perfection.   You can copy the Mona Lisa, if you wish, but God doesn’t.

There is only one soul, timeshared by all persons.  We are all soulmates with Jesus, and everyone else.  We come back, as individual souls.  The Earth abides.

As a trinitarian, I can suppose that Jesus is one with the Creator.  Therefore, so are we, all.  This is just monism, spelled out, smelly.  Surely you don’t object.  I did not invent this metaphysics.  It was invented by my professor, John Wheeler, with his one-electron theory of the universe, q.v.

Does this mean that you personally, smelly, are forced to reincarnate ~10^10 times on the Earth?  Don’t worry, you already have. It’s time to rest with the Source, don’t you think?
    ...........

    Dear, hobbit,

How many times do I have to point out that this is not a thread for idle speculation?

According to the BPWH, we, persons, logically precede all other life forms.  This is merely the logical consequence of personalism.

Feel free to disagree, but not without taking explicit exception.  If you find this etiquette too onerous, feel free to hang out your shingle on any other thread.

Thank you for your adherence to thread manners.

And please understand, that I encourage disagreement with the BPWH, but only consciously so, not by neglect.

    Dragons are real........?

Only relatively speaking, IMHO.  Persons reify reptiles, and not vice-versa.

One might argue that salamanders incarnate fire, for instance, and that fire is a primordial/eternal elemental.  And I will attempt to demonstrate otherwise.

Feel free to argue that hypothesis with me, Eric, at any time.

I’m just asking that you not bandy it, on this thread, without do so.

Materialists argue that only atoms are real.

Personalists argue that only persons are real.

Nothing in between those two positions is coherent.  And atomism stands to scant scrutiny.

Scientists tend to abhor philosophy.  Such abhorrence is dismissive of our humanity, and few scientists make any bones about it.

I make a bone about it. I make a cosmic case about it.

You may win the hearts, smelly. And, if you don’t give me too much grief, I’ll win the minds. The Princess supplies the portal.

    Dialogue ceases...... and then thought.....

    What about music and poetry?

It does sound as though we have achieved nirvana.

    This is Nirvana....... the Eschaton.

Ok, but, in the meantime...... until you abolish time&space.....?

But, Eric, you can quit the thread as soon as you like.

Or start your own thread with nothing but poetry allowed.

And you already have that....... on your website, if I’m not mistaken.

    hobbit,

Carl Sagan is not a truth seeker.  He is a scientist engaged in normal science.

You don’t go looking for truth or paradigm shifts in telescopes.

I labor under the impression that our current paradigm, scientific materialism, is fundamentally flawed.

One does not go out in the streets, looking for new paradigms, not at first.

Where I go is to the junkyard....... of modernism.  Modernism has come up short, in explaining the world.  Many, who share my misgivings, engage in fringe science...... trying to push the boundaries of science, beyond what is currently, academically accepted boundaries.

On this thread, hobbit, I am doing none of those things.
    ..............

Hold on....... I misspoke.   Galileo discovered the moons of Jupiter, looking through the telescope he had built.  He, politically, helped foment the Copernican revolution.

Bigger telescopes don’t make for bigger revolutions..... is my point. Once the geocentric model had been overthrown, anthropocentricity could not be far behind, and with it the entire prophetic tradition.

What was left standing was the Eastern tradition.  That tradition has become the spiritual home of all but the fundamentalists, including for you and smelly.  Deep ecology may be viewed as one aspect of the mystical tradition.

Mystics nibble around the edges of science, looking for the soft spots.

    I’m not a nibbler, hobbit.

Rather, I beg, borrow and steal from all the paradigms that Science rejected.  And I repurpose science, itself, as a major source of new metaphors. Out of these ‘found objects’, I cobble together a........ patchwork?

    I don’t think so.

    1:30............

For the first five years of my sojourn into metaphysics, I struggled with Cartesian mind/body dualism.  That dualism was born out of a desperate attempt to save a remnant of the spiritual realm from the onslaught of science.

It didn’t work, although fundamentalists still subscribe to it.

    Where was I to turn?

It never occurred to me to surrender to mysticism.  The scientific/rationalist impulse was imbedded at my core.  The spirit of Truth....... I took it to heart.

This is what smelly failed to grasp, for the longest time. A few days ago he may have caught a glimpse of this........ Truth that you can take to heart. It can be a slippery notion, if you don’t take it to heart.

How can we ever learn to trust Truth again?

If Truth there be, has it not been distorted..... beyond all recognition..... first by Religion, and then by Science?

    Dan,
    https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/1358127-the-dragons-of-eden-speculations-on-the-evolution-of-human-intelligence
I live in England, so Carl sagan is barely known, especially to myself.
    I just like the quote.
Now I have discovered he wrote a book called....
    The dragons of Eden.

I like some of the quotes from that, especially the third and fourth ones in this above link.

    Thank you, hobbit,

I read all the quotes...... and I feel for Carl.

He struggled to make sense of his accidental universe.  His heart was in the right place...... his head was not.  There is no place for mind, as an appendage to matter.

He struggled with the apparent teleology of evolution......

I gather that he firmly believed in the inevitable evolution of sapience, so much so that we had to eliminate our many competitors to that throne....... palace intrigue, we might suppose.

And then we have Social Darwinism.

How do you sleep at night, harboring such nightmares, hobbit?  Maybe you don’t.
    ..........

    99, excuse me......?

    .............

But, hobbit, if we’re not an accident along the cosmic highway, what the heck is going on?

    Feels creepy to me.

    Khensu The Reminder Tweet @KNeferhetep

Demons don’t respect or fear people who can’t control themselves. This is not an opinion. This is a fact.

This is a portal point maybe.

    New info.

    Whoa, bees in the box.

    I been major on bees.

I don't go for Gaia New Age stuff, but this is interesting.

I visualize this new info today as a ball of energy.

I am walking around it, poking it.

It has my focus and attention.

Perhpas I may try to join with this ball of energy.

    Aug had an experience.

    More imagination probably.

I'm open to crazy info, this kid is good.
