The Zen of Wu Wei

This is Wu Wei.

You know what to do.

Starting a new topic so as not to disturb the sleeping chicken and his portals, princesses and eschatons.

How does one post something to such a broad topic?

Because, of course, zen and Wu Wei are in fact what the universe is doing all the time already.

There is no formula to capture this natural state—you don’t have step 1, step 2, step 3, instead we look and study those who have done the work necessary to meet their true self along the way.

You can’t capture this conceptually, you somehow get a feel for it in the way you move effortlessly in your own life. You go out and discover everything that Zen and Wu Wei is not and then what you are left with is the pure unclouded way, your inner sage.

Everyone has a sage hidden under many layers of clothing.

Once you let all the extra layers clothing drop off, what you may be left with is something close to The Dude’s attire. A robe and slippers, shades and a simple grin.

I write these words yet in these words there is no zen.

I feel ya.

I’ve come to recognize that the truth is not any particular understanding or knowing some thing, it’s a way of being, which is a flow from emptiness out and back to emptiness.

The sages knew the way because the sages knew their self.

The sage knows not knowing unto flowing and flowing unto not knowing.

It’s the only relaxed way.

No prophecy here, the future is as unknowable as the present.

When you begin looking for the way, that’s when all the trouble begins.

But what are you gonna do about it because any way you are is the way.

So then we find that there really is nothing needed to do about it....but that’s exactly what we are doing at this very moment already, for the universe is that very thing, that do not-doing....always has been and always will be.

When you see this, all you can do is laugh.

So you can play with it as you feel to.

Eschatons, princesses, dudes, whatever, it’s all good.

But at the end of the day we must be honest with ourselves, that we don’t know anything really.

So I smash my crystal ball and loaf around practicing a very simple way.

A Dude way.

Dan is looking for himself.

He found him self in me as I found my self in me.

Well you can keep on looking Dan, as for me, I found myself and I know there is no one else to find.

The Dude finds himself where he left himself...just here in simple doing not doing, knowing not knowing.

The Dude Abides.

It starts with knowing you don’t know.

If you can admit that to yourself then doing the work to become what you are is much easier.

Beware of the knowers.

It is so simple to be who you are when you know you don’t know.

Suddenly you have nothing to do and all the time in the world to do it.

The good life is the simple life.

Simple is more.

Having nothing to do simply means to become aware of the way of self and effortless action.

Operating from an empty center.

I told a lie when I said Dan found his self.

The self is not a thing one can find, it’s a flow of doing not doing from a center of not knowing.

That’s all.

It’s not a thing one can find.

It’s an alignment with the way things are.

Accepting what is with honesty.

The sage does not have a thing to do or say.

The sage does not go fishing, knowing he can’t find what he already is.

The sage laughs quietly at the one setting traps.

Ok, nuff ‘bout Dan.

I’ve made my peace with the curious appearance that he is.

Moving on.

The quiet place, here near the center, a small space forms. This space is fainter and quieter than even the breath.

No word or sound can quite touch it but it breaths in the pockets formed within every word.

Here in the quiet place the male and female merge and breathe together as one.

Here in the quiet place, neither to nor from.

Here in the quiet place, neither known or unknown.

A gray cloud drifts aimlessly among the birds.

Layers of relaxation.

Knowing energy and not knowing energy flows and mixes together to form the becoming world.

Who can know or imagine the aimless way?

Dan and smelly are perfectly complimentary energies......here, there, everywhere, and nowhere.

Nothingness and possibly come in and out of bond an infinite number of times in a finite moment, now and forever.

The way that can be traveled is not the eternal way.

Only silence here.

Only silence flowing as this stream of pure becoming.

The moment one takes aim is the moment the self materializes and separates from the eternal way.

The only way is to try not trying.

It’s the only truly relaxed way.

Do you know the way?

If you know the way you know you don’t know the way.

The only way is don’t know way.

If you don’t know, then you know.

You know what I mean?

Are you sure?

Keep trying all the way to perfect laughter and Dude-like stoic living.

Wake up every morning not knowing.

Eat breakfast not knowing.

Go to work not knowing.

Sleep not knowing.

Do this all without aiming, only let things happen effortless as they will and the universe comes to you.

How do I know all this?

I don’t, I just do it.

Now the quiet place moves with the breeze.

Simple intuitive flowing.

Water and gravity.

Peace and freedom.

Here where the very faintest light shines, I light up the world and give death it’s own death.

To love the world as it is, accepting the truth as it is open and honesty.

The truth that you are the way and that the way is no way.

Playful and aimless.

Decisively swift and sure.

Back to radical Zen.

Our minds are trained to respond to things in terms of differentiation and identification. Underlying such mental processes
is the universal prejudice that beyond the mere existence of things
there is "an essence," beyond their appearance "a meaning." Yet
once we realize that the existence of things is their essence (their
appearance, their meaning), what is there to understand? In our
quest for "meaning" we have tried almost every possible answer
except the most simple and obvious one: that the meaning of things
are the things themselves. "

Yes, we exist on two levels.

We don’t have to choose either or.

You can aim to not aim with a clear mind.

Zen is like this.

Just this.

Who can live on two levels at once?

A rustic.

A goat.

Zen has a very earthy taste.

Once you taste earth, nothing else really compares.

It's quiet here when the mind is clear.

Clear mind does not mean that nothing arises, simply that what arises is recognized clearly.

There is no resistance to the coming and going of things as they arise

Everything is just what it is

Accepting what is one must surrender completely

Living young and wild and free.

Wu Whee!

You don’t know what comfortable in your own skin is like until you die and keep on living.

In one instant you cut to the root and suddenly fall into your natural state relaxed and open.

Standing with my naked self alone and calm, not distracted by delusions or lies, I can let life happen without dragging or pulling.

We are the flow.

Trust the flow.

Love the flow.

Practice the flow in all things you do.

Let love have it's way.

The only way.

I don't know the way, but I would question everything.

I don’t know what anything means but I would question everything.

I question all appearances equally, but I especially question my thoughts about the appearances.

What can I say?

I'm a very visual person.

I grew up in a family of artists.

All types of appearances are beautiful, but of them all I'm especially fond of the visual appearances.

What we think about what appears visually is not the real deal.

Keep a question mark over the visual masterpiece that appears and let it be free.

Wow!

Do you see it?

The self knows what appears.

The no self doesn't know any appearance.

the self and the no self are playing a game with each other, a game the self would call hide and seek.

It's happening every moment with every appearance, a dance with the known and unknown.

The unknown is scary at first, but once you get used to it it's unlike anything this world has to offer.

Oh, and it's not you who ever get's used to it but we go with the flow all the way here.

I don't know.

My words always fall so shot.

Good thing my reach is far.

I would say it only matters what we think about the appearances insomuch that it allows us to live a  more comfortable simple life.

Compared to a couple hundred years ago we really have it good. We have all the comforts we could ever need to live happy simple lives, especially in this time.

We have it good.

We are lucky and we have a lot to be thankful for.

But also, beyond physical comfort there is peace of mind and mental health and emotional security....

We want to feel comfortable with the appearance that seemingly appeared out of nowhere and for no reason we are attached to it and love it even though we don’t know what it is, where it came from or where it’s headed.

The best way to find mental/personal comfort and be at peace with the appearance is to accept it and love it for what it is....just an unknowable appearance.

People go around trying to make sense out of the appearance, but it will never make sense.

It appeared out of nowhere for no reason.

It could disappear at any moment.

If it did disappear it could reappear... it appeared once, it could happen again, it really could.

If you will it you will deal it.

So just sit back and enjoy the light show!

Okay, the appearance didn’t appear for no reason, it appeared because it’s reasonable to assume that nothing is the only thing that can’t exist.

So then how to we teach people this?

We go with the flow and show them the truth and the like the Princess showed me, like Dan showed me, like smelly showed me, like foot and everyone else showed me and like I showed myself.

The unknowable is knowable only through the flow of nature.

The knowable and Unknowable merge as flowing wu wei.

You can wu wei through thoughts and also wu wei through the sensible world of touch, sight, taste and smell with a quiet don’t know mind.

To know one you have to know the other.

To unknow one you have to unknow the other.

Persons are central to the cosmos.

Love persons deplorables and all.

They are all you.

If you had one chance to get everything you ever wanted in all moments of time and throughout all of history, but you had to risk everything to get it, would you take the chance?

Take a chance with love, it’s the only think worth doing.

Take a chance with your self.
