Ultra-Orthodoxy: a Case of Abnormal Extraversion

Part of any awakening has to be the realization that ultraorthodoxy, or orthodox extremism, abnormal skepticsm, or mainstream mania, if you will, is a case of abnormal extraversion (aka choleric personality or undercontrolled personality). And it is in denial about pretty much everything and constantly does projection (a hypocritical, neurotic defense mechanism, which functions also as delusion, rage disorder, and dominance-aggression) to protect its bizarre belief system, and is addicted to, and obsessed with, orthodoxy.

Ultra-orthodoxers are dogmatic skeptics who are ill-tempered, mean-spirited, unfeeling, unethical, abusive, domineering, and narrow-minded, are compulsive liars (they lie to themselves, about the evidence, and about their opponents), unable to make any intelligent criticisms and unable to engage in rational discussion, addicted to orthodoxy and obsessed with it, compulsively in denial, and compulsively do projection, and fit to a T the profile of abnormal (neurotic or unstable) extraversion, popularly and traditionally called the choleric personality, and also known as the undercontrolled personality, which means low on Conscientiousness and Agreeableness, and high on Neuroticism and Extraversion (I do not include the 5th factor, Openness to Culture and Experience, but they would be low on it). Abnormal extraversion has been confirmed in at least 20 research studies out of at least 20 (for a review see, John, O., Srivastava, S. The Big 5 Trait Taxonomy: history, measurement, and  theoretical  perspectives, in Handbook of  Personality: theory and  research (2nd ed.), L. Pervin and O.P. John (eds.), Guilford, New York (on-line)). Abnormal extraverts are given to externalizing disorders like rage disorder, antisocial personality, narcissism, sadism. They are described as impulsive, self-centered, manipulative, aggressive, confrontational, unfeeling, close-minded, not very bright, and outgoing. Stable extraverts, also called resilients, are also outgoing, but by contrast are personable, dependable, open-minded, smart, secure, and mature. So there are few normal extraverts in science; why this is is unknown. This is not to say that most scientists are abnormal as some are normal intraverts and some are ambiverts or don't fit into any personality type.

I don't think there can be real enlightenment without this realization.
